Nutrient .NET SDK 14.4.8 introduces an expanded PDF digital-signing engine and improves PDF/A and PDF/UA conversion. It also includes performance and reliability updates across PDF and Office workflows.

Below are the notable updates in this release.

PDF digital signing

The signing engine adds support for Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) certificates and PKCS#11 signing devices. It also supports PDF Advanced Electronic Signatures (PAdES) baseline levels B-LT and B-LTA. You can also use deferred signing with an external signing service, add document timestamps, and add long-term validation (LTV) information to existing signatures. The SDK can also read and validate document timestamps. Validation of documents with multiple signatures also improves.

Compatibility note: The SDK no longer uses Secure Hash Algorithm 1 (SHA-1) to create new signatures. It can still verify existing SHA-1 signatures.

PDF/A and PDF/UA

PDF/A and PDF/UA conversion output has improved structural consistency. This release also fixes font handling in PDF/A conversion and improves the handling of invisible optical character recognition (OCR) text in PDF/A output.

Performance and document conversion

PDF font embedding is faster. This release also improves XLSX-to-PDF conversion and AI-powered table and chart recognition. The default local vision model now uses a higher-accuracy configuration for chart and figure extraction. It requires more memory than the previous default. On memory-constrained systems, configure a smaller compatible model in the custom vision language model (VLM) API settings. Office conversion fixes address right-to-left text alignment, page and footnote layout, malformed files, and issues affecting MSG, XLSX, DOCX, and PowerPoint documents.

Reliability and error reporting

The SDK returns more specific error statuses for common runtime and PDF operation failures. PDF methods called before a document is loaded now return the dedicated PdfNoDocumentLoaded status instead of a generic error. This release also fixes annotation rendering issues in thumbnails on .NET 8 and later, and unbounded native memory growth in long-running services.
