Unlocking OCR capabilities for Android PDFs
Nutrient Android SDK ships with advanced OCR capabilities.
When working with PDFs, you might encounter documents that contain pages with inaccessible text. This is especially common with scanned documents or documents that contain photographed pages. OCR adds a text layer to raster and vector PDFs, enabling text markup annotations, text selection, text extraction, and search.
Images imported from the camera, gallery, or file picker are raster content. Nutrient Android SDK can display and annotate supported image files, but it won’t detect selectable text in them until you convert the image to a PDF and run OCR on the resulting document. OCR doesn’t turn scanned text into editable PDF text objects.
OCR is an additional component that can be added to your license. Reach out to us if you’re interested in adding this to your license or want to learn more about the OCR roadmap. You can also reach out with feedback and feature requests related to your use case.
OCR supports detecting text written in many different languages. For a comprehensive list of supported languages, see here.
