Canceling a request

The Cancel Request option enables end users who have submitted a request to cancel it after the initial submission. Once canceled, the request flow stops, and the system removes the currently assigned task from the current recipient’s queue. The default views in Manage Requests, Monitor Requests, and View My Requests hide canceled requests. To find one, filter Request State to Cancelled.

Treat cancellation as irreversible. This guide doesn’t document a self-service recovery option for canceled requests. The canceled request remains available for reference in the filtered views; record its request ID and any audit details you need before you cancel.

If it’s enabled by your administrator, the option to cancel a request will appear in the Request Detail tab for all newly initiated requests.

Cancel a request (delete request)

The Cancel Request option is only available for the requester and the client. It won’t be available to other recipients who are part of a workflow.

Before you click Cancel Request, verify these details:

  • You’re the requester or client for the request.
  • You’ve confirmed the request ID and requester/client identity.
  • The process has request cancellation enabled.
  • The current assignee doesn’t need to complete the task.
  • You’ve notified the current assignee separately, because cancellation doesn’t send them a notification.
  • You understand the canceled request no longer appears in the default views but remains available by filtering Request State to Cancelled.

To cancel your request:

  1. Open Actions > View My Requests in the navigation pane.
  2. Find your request and confirm it’s the one you want to cancel.
  3. Open its Request Detail tab and click Cancel Request.

Only workflows that have this feature enabled show this option.

Once the request is canceled, the system cancels the task and removes it from each current assignee’s View My Tasks section without a notification. Monitor Requests and Manage Requests hide the request from their default views. To find it, filter Request State to Cancelled.

Permissions cannot be assigned to the cancel request option.
